MUSHROOM DAY MOVIE MATINEE/MEET-Up
Announcing the first instalment of APS-Sydney’s Mushroom Day events on Sunday June 20th will be a screening of the film Magic Medicine followed by a meet-up/picnic in Camperdown Park.
Many people suggested after cactus Day that we make time for folks to catch up, meet new people and chat, so we are to are responding to the community by creating this opportunity for folks to gather, ‘meet the others’, reflect, talk and chill :)
The powerful new film Magic Medicine (2018), follows a pioneering trial at Imperial College London with supporters including Baroness Meacher calling for reclassification to allow urgently needed research. The film is a 4 year story based on filmmaker Monty Wates’ access to the first ever medical trial to give psilocybin (the psychoactive ingredient in magic mushrooms) to a group of volunteers suffering from clinical depression. This remarkable film follows three of the volunteers and their families, and the ambitious staff running the trial, who are hoping this controversial treatment will have the power to transform millions of lives. With deeply moving footage of the “trips” the patients go on, this intimate film is an absorbing portrait of the human cost of depression, and the inspirational people contributing to groundbreaking psychedelic research.
Remember to bring the usual picnic things: food and drink to share, blankets, a positive attitude and any curious friends & family.
WHEN: Sunday June 20th, 10:30-12:30 FILM & 12:30 -3:30 Picnic Meet-Up
WHERE: The Temple on The Park, Newtown & Camperdown Park afterwards.
